CLARK — The Sioux Valley Cossacks rolled on the ground, racking up 282 rushing yards including 154 from Brock Christopherson in a 56-36 win over Clark/Willow Lake on Friday night.
The win helped the Cossacks improve to 3-0 ahead of next week’s homecoming matchup against Sisseton.
Sioux Valley struck first when Wyatt Hardt ran it in from two yards out and Maverick Nelson doubled the lead with a five-yard touchdown run to put the Cossacks up 14-0.
A Jameson Degen 29-yard field goal gave Sioux Valley a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter before Christopherson picked up a safety and Mitchell Guthmiller had a nine-yard touchdown run to make it a 26-0 game.
The Cyclones attempted to make it a game beginning with a pair of touchdown passes from 69 yards and 32 yards to Lincoln Reidburn but Nelson ripped off a 91-yard kickoff return to give Sioux Valley a 33-14 lead at halftime.
The Cossacks kept rolling in the second half as a three-yard touchdown run by Guthmiller preceded Sioux Valley’s second safety of the night and a 35-yard touchdown run by Hardt put Sioux Valley ahead 49-14.
Larson threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Elliot Bratland to cut the Cossacks lead down to 49-22 but Nelson had a 23-yard touchdown run to give Sioux Valley a 56-22 lead after three quarters.
Larson had a 17-yard touchdown run with 8:57 left in the fourth quarter and Griffin Musser scored on a three-yard touchdown with 1:20 remaining to cap the scoring.
Hardt had 51 yards on 12 carries for the Cossacks while Nelson ran five times for 39 yards. Tobin Squires also caught two passes for 44 yards for Sioux Valley.
Hardt led the way on defense with seven tackles and a blocked punt. Preston Top and Braden Danzeisen had six tackles each. Brody Haaland had an interception and Guthmiller had four tackles and a blocked punt.
Larson led the Cyclones with 12 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown while completing 7-of-12 passes for 219 yards. Larson also had eight tackles and an interception in the loss.
