DES MOINES, Iowa – South Dakota State track and field continued a busy weekend of action at the Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Open on Friday, featuring hot performances on both sides of competition.

DRAKE RELAYS

Faith Leiseth made waves and took eighth place in two separate events in Des Moines: the women’s invite shot put and invite discus. She first threw a 149-10.00 in the discus and then threw a 47-02.25 in the shot put.

Mildred Young took 18th place in the discus with her throw of 142-01.00

Savannah Risseeuw ran a 14.05 in the 100-meter hurdle prelims to take fourth in her heat and 16th overall while Jenna Johnson clocked a 56.51 400-meter dash for third in her heat and 12th place overall finish.

The men’s 4x1600-meter relay squad of Carter Knaus, Ben Olson, Cody Larson and Tom Breuckman clocked a 16:37.65 for fourth place.

Jared Wipf ran a 10.62 in the 100-meter dash prelims for third in his heat and a ninth place overall finish as Thailan Hallman finished in 13th place overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.22.

Daniel Burkhalter claimed 11th place in the 1500-meter run after clocking a 3:51.91.

Wyatt Seagren took runner-up in the discus with a personal best throw of 173-03.00 (eighth best in school history) and Ethan Fischer finished in 13th with a 164-01.00 while in the shot put, Dominick Etherington was runner-up with his mark of 58-07.25.

KIP JANVRIN OPEN

Action in Indianola started with the women’s 800-meter run, where Tori Glazier took runner-up in a personal best 2:12.06 and Claire Beckman finished close behind in third with a 2:12.18. Also competing were Harley Fischer (20th, 2:17.62), Emma Ecker (28th, 2:19.49) and Nina Dawson (31st, 2:20.76).

On the men’s side, four athletes competed in the 800-meter run, led by Eli Salisbury. He finished 25th with a time of 1:55.44 while Lucas Caminiti ran a personal best 1:56.36 for 26th. Nathan Notgrass came 47th in 1:57.16 (PR) and Kyle Nordling was 62nd with a 1:59.47 (PR).

Saturday

Three Jackrabbit throwers represented SDSU in three different events on Saturday as the final day of competition at the Drake Relays concluded.

Hunter Wallster qualified for the finals of the men’s hammer throw and finished in fourth place with a personal best mark of 202-02.00, which is now second on the SDSU top 10 list.

In the finals of the women’s javelin, Nora Peterson took seventh place with her throw of 135-11.00.

Catylynn Duff then claimed 14th place overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 161-10.00.

UP NEXT

SDSU will head to meets at North Dakota State, South Dakota and University of Minnesota Mankato in the final week of competition before the Summit League Championships.
