The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader as the Aberdeen Smittys won the first game 22-3 and the second game 14-2 at Bob Shelden Field on Tuesday night.

Bombers White drops home doubleheader with Aberdeen

The Bombers dropped both ends of a doubleheader ahead of next weekend's Joe Kirley Tournament in Pierre.

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader as the Aberdeen Smittys won the first game 22-3 and the second game 14-2 at Bob Shelden Field on Tuesday night.

The Bombers fell to 0-4 after the doubleheader and will take part at the Joe Kirley Tournament in Pierre this weekend.

Game One

Aberdeen 22, Brookings 3 (3 Inn.)
Aberdeen put up the runs early as they scored 11 times in the first inning on the way to a 22-3 win via the 15-inning rule in the first game of the doubleheader.

Dalton Brownell started a rally for the Bombers with a leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning and Jonas Murray drew a one out walk before both runners scored on a wild pitch and error to cut the lead down to 11-2.

Aberdeen put up four more runs in the top of the second inning before the Bombers scratched together a run in the bottom of the second inning. Bode TeKrony drew a one out walk before Brownell was hit by a pitch. Mack Nelson singled to lead the bases and Murray drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 15-3 game.

The Smittys scored six times in the top of the third inning and set the Bombers down in order in the bottom half to finish the game.

Warner Carroll started for the Bombers allowing 15 runs (12 earned) on six hits and seven walks with a pair of strikeouts in one inning. Murray pitched two innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits and four walks with a strikeout.

Brownell went 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored. Nelson went 1-for-2. Lincoln Damm went 1-for-2 with a stolen base. Murray drew two walks. Carroll and TeKrony each drew a walk.

Game Two

Aberdeen 14, Brookings 2

Aberdeen lit up the scoreboard again in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring five times in the second inning, twice in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning and five times in the sixth inning to win via the 10-run rule.

Brookings scored both of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Murray led off with a double before Brownell singled with one out and Hudson Vincent drove in a run with a single. Jonathan Lacher-Starace drove in the Bombers’ second run with a groundout in the next at-bat.

Nelson started for the Bombers, allowing five earned runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts over two innings. Damm allowed four earned runs on three hits and two walks in 1.1 innings out of the bullpen and Aiden Adelmann finished the game, allowing five unearned runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in 2.2 innings.

Nelson went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. Brownell went 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. VMurray went 1-for-3 with a double. Landon Mosley and Kale Welker each drew a walk.
