Brookings Swim Club hosts annual summer invitational

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Swim Club held its annual summer invitational at the Hillcrest Swimming Pool on June 7-9.

Girls

BSC had three different swimmers take first place in three different events at the invitational.

Sofia Gonzalez competed in the age 15-16 division and finished first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:33.09), the 400-meter freestyle (5:16.01) and the 800-meter freestyle (11:01.63).

Jane Meland took home three first-place finishes in the 8u division, finishing with a time of 2:28.74 in the 100-meter breaststroke, 50.91 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle and 2:09.34 in the 100-meter backstroke.

Ava Humphrey finished first in three events in the age 17-19 division. Humphrey had a time of 3:00.46 in the 200-meter individual medley, 6:18.12 in the 400-meter individual medley and 1:27.64 in the 100-meter backstroke.
Molly Schultz and Kalla Foester each finished first in two events in their respective divisions.

Schultz finished first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:36.86) and the 200-meter backstroke in the age 17-19 division while Foerster finished first in the 50-meter freestyle (30.79) and 100-meter backstroke in the 100-meter backstroke division.

Kendall Schmit finished first in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 3:02.60 in the age 13-14 division.
McKinley Schwab finished first in the 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 21:53.47 in the age 13-14 division.

Foerster finished second in four events in the age 13-14 division. Foerster finished with times of 1:28.45 in the 100-meter breaststroke, 1:08.87 in the 100-meter freestyle, 2:46.29 in the 200-meter backstroke and 3:10.60 in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Ava Brenner earned two second-place finishes in the age 17-19 division with times of 21:02.86 in the 1500-meter freestyle and 5:25.81 in the 400-meter freestyle.

Jane Meland finished second twice in the 8u division with times of 1:00.55 in the 50-meter backstroke and 1:07.16 in the 50-meter breaststroke.

BSC had eight different swimmers finish with a second-place finish.

Quinn Humphrey finished second with a time of 1:46.66 in the 100-meter breaststroke in the age 15-16 division.
Gonzalez finished second in the age 15-16 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:29.71.

Schultz finished second with a time of 3:01.17 in the age 17-19 division’s 200-meter individual medley.

Kjersten Johnson finished second in the age 11-12 division’s 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 42.61 seconds.

Ava Humphrey finished second in the 100-meter butterfly in the age 17-19 division with a time of 1:27.25 seconds.

Carmen Kurtenbach finished second in the 100-meter backstroke for the 8u division with a time of 2:13.74.

Amelia Meland finished second in the 400-meter freestyle for the age 9-10 division with a time of 6:47.36.

Kyra Bowne finished second in the 50-meter freestyle for the age 15-16 division with a time of 30.61 seconds.

Schultz finished third in two different events in the age 17-19 division. She posted a time of 1:12.46 in the 100-meter freestyle and a time of 1:22.51 in the 100-meter backstroke.

Rausch also had two third-place finishes in the age 9-10 division. Rausch had a time of 1:40.81 in the 100-meter backstroke and 7:15.80 in the 400-meter freestyle.

Amelia Meland finished third in the 100-meter backstroke for the age 9-10 division with a time of 1:51.43.

Kjersten Johnson finished third in the 100-meter breaststroke for the age 11-12 division with a time of 1:38.13.
Bowne finished third in the 100-meter freestyle in the age 15-16 division with a time of 3:07.61.

Olivia Hove finished third in the 200-meter backstroke for the age 15-16 division with a time of 3:07.61.

Kurtenbach finished third in the 50-meter freestyle in the 8u division with a time of 49.79.

Quinn Humphrey finished third in the 50-meter butterfly in the age 9-10 division with a time of 49.79.

Brenner finished third in the 800-meter freestyle for the age 17-19 division with a time of 11:02.99.

Boys

Cody Vertin had a spectacular weekend finishing first in six events in the age 17-19 division. Vertin finished with times of 1:06.85 in the 100-meter breaststroke, 2:14.75 in the 200-meter individual medley, 4:48.75 in the 400-meter individual medley, 4:27.72 in the 400-meter freestyle, 1:02.87 in the 100-meter backstroke and 2:25.60 in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Jack Ellison finished first in two events in the age 17-19 division. Ellison finished with a time of 1:02.21 in the 100-meter butterfly and a time of 26.54 in the 50-meter freestyle.

Noah Humphrey finished first in the 100-meter breaststroke in the age 15-16 division with a time of 1:26.68.

Trevin Lounsbury finished first in the 200-meter backstroke in the age 15-16 division with a time of 2:38.61.

BSC had three second-place finishes in the age 15-16 division. Jorgen Johnson finished second in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:40.69, Lounsbury finished second in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 28.85 seconds and Noah Humphrey finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 3:06.12.

Brookings also had three second-place finishes in the age 17-19 division with Jack Ellison finishing with a time of 2:17.58 in the 200-meter individual medley, Aedan Lansang finishing with a time of 1:01.98 in the 100-meter freestyle and Ernest Ting finishing with a time of 2:53.47 in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Brenden Kuehl finished second in the 100-meter butterfly for the age 9-10 division with a time of 2:10 81 and Wyatt deBlonk finished second in the 50-meter backstroke for the age 11-12 division with a time of 39.57.

deBlonk also finished third in four events in the age 11-12 division. deBlonk had a time of 1:43.81 in the 100-meter backstroke, 1:13.04 in the 100-meter freestyle, 31.92 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle and 1:24.17 in the 100-meter backstroke.

Lounsbury finished third in three events in the age 15-16 division. Lounsbury had times of 1:28.92 in the 100-meter breaststroke, 1:05.06 in the 100-meter freestyle and 1:12.43 in the 100-meter backstroke.

Jorgen Johnson and Corbyn Penner each had two third-place finishes in the age 15-16 division. Johnson finished with times of 2:58.75 in the 200-meter individual medley and 3:14.09 in the 200-meter breaststroke while Penner finished with times of 2:56.36 in the 200-meter backstroke and 1:24.06 in the 100-meter butterfly.

Noah Humphrey finished third in the 200-meter freestyle for the age 15-16 division with a time of 2:26.82.

Wesley Hanson-McComb finished third in the 50-meter breaststroke in the age 9-10 division with a time of 56.18 seconds.
