Bullets swept on the road by Aberdeen

Bullets swept on the road by Aberdeen

The Bullets fell to 1-9-1 ahead of the Dakota Classic Tournament in Sioux Falls this weekend.

ABERDEEN – The Brookings Bullets 16U team was swept in a doubleheader against the Aberdeen Smittys on Tuesday night.

Brookings lost the first game 14-7 and then dropped the second game 15-0. The Bullets dropped to 1-9-1 on the season. Brookings will hit the diamond again this weekend in the Dakota Classic Tournament in Sioux Falls.

Game One

Aberdeen 14, Brookings 7

The two teams were tied 5-5 through three and a half innings but the Smittys were able to turn it on the rest of the way.

The Smittys went up 4-0 in the bottom of the second. Their first run of the game came on an RBI double. Then a two-run single and an RBI single gave Aberdeen a four-run lead heading into the third.

Aberdeen pushed the lead to 5-0 in the third with an RBI single. Brookings then tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Vince Doblar led off the inning reaching on an error and Rylan Hesser followed with a single. Doblar then scored on an error by the catcher and Hesser scored on a Charlie Richter single. Parker Witte then came to the plate with the bases loaded and cleared the bases with a double, making it 5-5 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Aberdeen answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning. A grand slam put the Smittys up 9-5. Then an RBI single and a run on a wild pitch made it 11-5 heading into the fifth.

Brookings got two runs back in the next half inning. Doblar led off the inning with a triple and scored on a steal of home. Hesser walked and then scored on an error to make it 11-7.

The Smittys scored runs on a double and a wild pitch to make it 13-7. An RBI triple later in the inning made it 14-7 heading into the sixth and that ended up being the final.

Brookings had five hits as a team. Witte was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and Richter was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Hesser was 1-for-3 and Doblar was 1-for-4. Wes Van Ede was 1-for-1.

Sutton Schneider pitched the first three innings for the Bullets. He gave up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Doblar pitched the next inning and gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits with one strikeout and one walk. Richter pitched the final inning and gave up three earned runs on two hits with one walk.

Game Two

Aberdeen 15, Brookings 0 (3 inn.)

It was a tough game for the Bullets offense in game two as they had just one hit. Aberdeen scored three runs in the first inning and six runs in both the second and the third inning.

The first run of the game for the Smittys came on an error. The next two came from a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

A two-run double put Aberdeen up 5-0 in the second. A three-run triple and a run on a wild pitch made it 9-0 heading into the third.

The first two runs of the third came on a two-run double. An RBI triple and a two-run single made it 13-0. Another two-run double from the Smittys ended the game due to the 15-run rule.

Doblar had the lone hit for the Bullets. Connor Jones pitched the first inning and two thirds and gave up eight runs, six earned, on five hits with one strikeout and five walks. Witte pitched the final two thirds of an inning and gave up seven runs, six earned, on six hits with two walks.
