WATERTOWN — Brookings finished in ninth place as a team at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Tournament on Monday at Moccasin Creek Country Club.
Bobcats coach Andy Lee admitted the conditions in Watertown were tough, but would like to see some more mental toughness moving forward.
“We had some very tough conditions (Monday) and it showed in our scores and throughout the field as well,” Lee said. “Overall, I still think we need to be stronger mentally. Especially in these conditions, we can’t let things slip away. Days like today mak consistency tough and that is something we are lacking right now. We have to be tougher.”
The Bobcats shot 62-over par as a team. Tyson Lunn was the top finisher for Brookings and he tied for ninth after shooting an 81.
“He’s been grinding a lot this year and this was a big moment for him,” Lee said about Lunn’s performance. “We will need him and the other guys to step up in [the section tournament] in Watertown next week.”
Rhys Heiberger tied for 22nd (84) and Mason Diers tied for 40th (91). Issak Earley tied for 44th (94) and Jase Bauer finished in 48th (95). Andrew Heinze tied for 49th (96).
Pierre won the tournament with a score of 22-over par. Harrisburg came in second (+34) and Brandon Valley finished in third (+37). Watertown came in fourth (+42) and Tea Area rounded out the top five (+50).
