The Brookings Bullets 16U team dropped both games in a doubleheader against Renner on Wednesday night at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings Bullets swept in doubleheader against Renner

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Bullets 16U team dropped both games in a doubleheader against Renner on Wednesday night at Bob Shelden Field.

Both games were close as Brookings lost the first game 6-4 and the second game 4-2. The Bullets are now 1-17-1 and will play a doubleheader in Fargo on June 25. The first game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

Renner 6, Brookings 4

Renner scored two runs in the top of the seventh and the Bullets were unable to score any runs in the bottom of the inning.

Renner took the lead on an error in the top of the second inning. They then pushed the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third. The first run came on a wild pitch and the next one came on a fielder’s choice.

Brookings scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Parker Witte led off the inning with a walk. He stole both second and third and then came home on a Connor Jones single to make it 3-1.

The Bullets then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Sutton Schneider led off the inning with a walk and Wes Van Ede followed with a single. Carter Reicks then hit a one-out single to load the bases up and Witte walked to cut the lead to 3-2. Van Ede scored on a fielder’s choice to tie  the game and Reicks scored on a passed ball to put the Bullets up 4-3.

Renner scored a run on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth to tie the game. They then scored two runs on a two-out double in the seventh to take the lead. Brookings went down one-two-three in the bottom of the inning.

Brookings had five hits in the game. Parker Nielsen and Jones were each 1-for-3 with an RBI. Reicks and Van Ede were each 1-for-3 and Charlie Richter was 1-for-1. Witte had an RBI without a hit.

Vince Doblar started the game for the Bullets and pitched five and two thirds innings. He gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Richter pitched the final inning and a third and gave up two earned runs on one hit with three walks and a strikeout.

Renner 4, Brookings 2

Brookings fell behind 4-0 in game two and was unable to come back.

Renner took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single. They then pushed the lead to 4-0 with a sacrifice fly and a two-run double in the top of the fourth.

Brookings scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Doblar and Rylan Hesser each drew one out walks. Richter loaded the bases with a single and both Doblar and Hesser scored on an error to make it 4-2 heading into the fifth.

The Bullets were unable to score any runs in the final two innings and dropped the second game of the doubleheader as well.

Brookings had four hits in game two. Hesser and Reicks were each 1-for-2 and Schneider and Richter were each 1-for-3. Schneider also had an RBI.

Van Ede pitched the first four innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Reicks pitched three shutout innings and gave up one hit and had two strikeouts.
