BROOKINGS — The Brookings Figure Skating Club is excited to announce the return of its “Edges of Summer” figure skating skills camp, taking place Aug. 9-11 at Larson Ice Center in Brookings. The camp offers an excellent opportunity for skaters of all levels to enhance their skills and receive training from renowned national figure skating champion and guest coach, Max Aaron.

The “Edges of Summer” camp provides a range of package options, each spanning two and three days, to cater to skaters’ diverse needs.

The “Early Edges of Summer” option is specifically designed for beginners and intermediate-level skaters. The two-day camp includes a combination of on and off-ice activities, ensuring a holistic learning experience.

Skaters in ISI levels through Delta will be grouped by skill during the two-day camp. The main three-day camp is geared toward advanced-level skaters to refine and enhance skating skills. Skaters with advanced ISI or USFS levels are encouraged to join and take advantage of this intensive camp. The camp program encompasses a combination of on and off-ice activities, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging learning environment. Both morning and afternoon snacks will be provided to keep skaters fueled, and participants are requested to bring a packed lunch.

In addition to the camp packages, participants can engage in private lessons with coach Max Aaron, offering an exceptional one-on-one learning experience. Private lessons are also available with numerous Brookings Figure Skating Club coaches.

Club president Chris Buus stated, “Hosting our Edges of Summer camp promises to be an incredible experience again, allowing skaters to learn and refine their skills under the expert guidance of Coach Max Aaron. It’s a true honor to bring a professional coach of Max’s caliber to Brookings, and we look forward to welcoming skaters from near and far to this enriching event.”

About Max Aaron

Max Aaron’s skating career really began with hockey at age 3. When he was 9 he took up figure skating to improve his skating skills, but his main focus was hockey. He reached an elite level playing, U16 AAA Hockey, and was named to the U.S. U14 Developmental hockey team at the age 14. Max competed in both hockey and figure skating until he was 16, when he suffered a fractured back. He was in a full body cast for months and was forced to stay off the ice for a year.

When he returned, he decided to focus solely on figure skating. His decision turned out to be a great one, as he has been winning medals ever since.

Max went on to become a four-time U.S. Championship Medalist: Gold (2013), Bronze (2014), Pewter (2015), Silver (2016), Grand Prix Medalist: Skate America: Gold (2016) and Bronze (2014); Skate Canada: Bronze (2015); Cup of China: Bronze (2018), fourt-time World Team member: (2013), (2014), (2016), and (2018), 11-time international medalist (2012-18), and a two-time World Team Champion in 2013 and 2015.
