Brookings native Scott Holm held off a field of 55 competitors to finish in first place and win the South Dakota Golfer’s Association Men’s Senior Championship held at the Brookings Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.

Brookings native Holm wins SDGA Men’s Senior Championship

BROOKINGS – Brookings native Scott Holm held off a field of 55 competitors to finish in first place and win the South Dakota Golfer’s Association Men’s Senior Championship held at the Brookings Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.

Holm opened the tournament by shooting a 70 on Saturday before finishing with a 73 on Sunday for a two-day score of 143. Holm finished seven strokes ahead of Dennis Breske of Sioux Falls, who shot 75 on both days for a total of 150 and nine strokes ahead of third place Brad Buche of Mitchell, who shot 77 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday for a tournament total of 152.

Derek Burshiem of Flandreau also had a strong tournament, tying with Marty Henriksen for fourth place. Bursheim and Henriksen both shot 79 on the first day of the tournament and finished with a score of 74 on Sunday afternoon for a total of 153.

Joe Hadley of Brookings finished in 39th place after shooting 81 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday for a total score of 167.

Bobby Kiecksee finished tied for fifth place in the Rushmore Division, shooting 84 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday for a two-day score of 163. Kiecksee finished 12 strokes behind champion Scott Hardie of Watertown, who shot 74 on Saturday and 77 on Sunday for a total score of 151.

James Sampson finished 29th in the Rushmore division, shooting 96 on the first day of the tournament and 88 on Sunday for a tournament total of 184.

Flandreau’s Stuart Zephier competed in the 70 and over division and finished in seventh place, shooting two rounds of 83 for a total score of 166.

Keith Wade and Dan Suedbeck of Brookings competed in the Pre-Senior Division and finished tied for eighth place. Both Wade and Suedbeck shot 75 on Saturday and 76 on Sunday for a total score of 151.

Jared Baszler of Brookings also competed in the Pre-Senior Division, shooting 77 on both days of the tournament for a total score of 154.

Other area golfers in the pre-senior division included James Benning of Estelline, who shot 81 on Saturday and 84 on Sunday to finish in 23rd place with a total of 165 and Colman’s Rex Groos, who shot 83 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday to finish tied for 26th with a total score of 169.
