Elk Point-Jefferson 21, Flandreau 14

ELK POINT — The Fliers stood up to the No. 3 team in the state, but ultimately fell short in a 21-14 loss to the Huskies on Friday night.

Paul Parsley led the way for Flandreau, completing 16-of-35 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown. Parsley was helped out by Luke Sheppard, who caught four passes for 71 yards and Cam Flute, who caught four passes for 59 yards.

Ben Ballard also caught two passes for 48 yards including a touchdown.

The Fliers’ effort through the air was matched on the ground where Parsley had five carries for 31 yards and a touchdown. Ballard also finished with 12 yards on four carries, Karter Headrick had nine yards on 10 carries and Flute had two carries for eight yards.

“We were moving the ball well with a solid mix of run and pass,” Flandreau head coach Josh Edlund said. “Our offensive line was giving Paul enough time to either throw or make a play with his legs. We had a few mistakes here and there and gave them a short field and they took advantage of it.”

Parsley also commended his defense which was led by Ballard (13 tackles), Kody Kneebone seven tackles) and Shepard (seven tackles). While he admitted they made some mistakes, he was proud of the Fliers’ (4-3) effort on Friday night ahead of next week’s regular-season finale at Beresford.

“I am so proud of our guys for being mentally tough and sticking with it,” Parsley said. “Good things are coming for this group. We have a tough matchup (coming up) in Beresford, but we have proven that we can play with anybody in the state."

Castlewood 14, Estelline/Hendricks 6

CASTLEWOOD — Carson Reitz scored a two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors beat the Redhawks on Friday night.

Reitz finished 8-for-12 passing with 124 yards and a rushing touchdown. Regan Schwartz led Estelline/Hendricks with 27 yards on nine carries while Cooper Faehnrich added 17 yards on five attempts.

Wyat James was the top target in the passing game with five catches for 51 yards. Braxton Jongeling caught four passes for 50 yards and Schwartz had a 23-yard reception.

Matthew McAninch had a team-high 12 tackles while Jongeling also hit double digits with 11 tackles. Reitz had seven tackles and James had five tackles.

The Redhawks fell to 4-3 with the loss and will host De Smet at Estelline High School on Friday at 7 p.m.
