Bobcats boys finish second, girls seventh at ESD cross country meet

HURON — The Brookings Bobcats competed in the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet at the Broadland Creek Golf course on Saturday morning.

The boys cross country team finished in second place at the event while the girls team finished in seventh place.

The Bobcats will have their final regular season meet at the Roger Loecker Invite in Huron on Thursday before the SDHSAA State Cross Country Meet on Oct. 26.

Boys

The Bobcats finished second at Saturday’s meet with a total of 59 points. Aberdeen Central finished in first place with 51 points and Brandon Valley finished third with 69 points. Yankton finished fourth with 141 points and Pierre rounded out the top five with 155 points.

Trevin Lounsbury was the top finisher for the Bobcats, finishing roughly 14 seconds behind champion Mikah Peters of Brandon Valley (15:32.84) with a time of 15:46.73. Ernest Ting also cracked the top-five for Brookings finishing third with a time of 15:55.79.

Aberdeen Central’s Carson Urlacher finished fourth with a time of 15:58.59 and Pierre’s Caleb Morris capped the top five with a time of 16:07.22.

Jonathan Kahler finished 10th for the Bobcats with a time of 16;31.91 and Dylan Haar finished 15th with a time of 16:55.26.

Marco Springman finished 29th with a time of 17:28.38; Shane Harming finished 36th with a time of 17:52.51; Treysen Lounsbury finished 56th with a time of 18:31.66; Weston Baker finished 69th with a time of 19:00.67 and Jack Bierman finished 70th with a time of 19:15.06.

Girls

The Bobcats finished seventh in the girls race with a total of 201 points. Kalla Foerster was the top finisher for Brookings, placing 27th with a time of 20:19.18.

Maise Mogard finished 39th with a time of 21:07.79 while Josie Nold finished 46th with a time of 21:33.97 Sophia Schmit rounded out the team scoring by placing 53rd with a time of 21:48.35.

Jordyn Johnson was the Bobcats’ pusher, placing 62nd with a time of 22:29.02.

Harrisburg won the ESD title with a total of 29 points. Brandon Valley finished second with 48 points while Pierre finished third with 92 points, Tea Area finished fourth with 109 points and Aberdeen Central finished fifth with 133 points.

Harrisburg took the top two spots in the meet as Brianna Reilly finished first with a time of 17:10.36 and Hannah Genrich finished second with a time of 17:13.31. Sarah VanDeBerg finished third with 18:20.41, Pierre’s Emery Larson finished fourth with a time of 18:24.15 and Brandon Valley’s Addison Scholten finished fifth with a time of 18:26.69.
