The Brookings Bombers White 13U/14U team was able to pick up its first win of the season on Wednesday night as the Bombers split a doubleheader against Watertown.

Bombers White wins first game of the season

WATERTOWN – The Brookings Bombers White 13U/14U team was able to pick up its first win of the season on Wednesday night as the Bombers split a doubleheader against Watertown.

Brookings lost 11-10 in walk off fashion in game one but then bounced back with a 14-12 victory in game two. The Bombers are now 1-9 and will play in the Sioux Falls Slam this weekend in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Watertown 11, Brookings 10

The White Sox scored six runs in the final half inning and walked off the Bombers in game one.

Brookings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Delton Brownell walked to begin the inning and then scored on a single from Kuddyer Baugher. Watertown tied the game in the bottom of the inning as it scored a run on a ground out.

The Bombers regained the lead in the top of the second. Aidan Adelmann reached on an error to lead off the inning and then scored on a steal of home. Watertown answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. The first two runs came from a double and then a two-run single put the White Sox up 5-2 heading into the third.

Brookings got one run back in the top of the third. Mack Nelson reached on an error to start the inning and then scored on an H Vincent single to make it 5-3. 

The fourth inning was the last inning and the Bombers scored seven in the top of the inning. Landon Mosley was hit by a pitch and then scored on a single from Lincoln Damm. Jaxson Neuharth followed that with a single of his own and both runners then scored on an error to make it 6-5. Baugher hit a two-run double to make it 8-5 and then a run came home on a ground out. The final run of the inning came on a Brode TeKony single to make it 10-5 heading into the final half inning.

The first run of the bottom of the fourth for Watertown came on a wild pitch. The next two runs came from an error and a wild pitch. The White Sox then scored a run on a dropped third strike and runs from a wild pitch and a single allowed Watertown to take the first game of the doubleheader.

Brookings had nine hits. Baugher was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Vincent went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Damm went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Neuharth went 1-for-1.

Adelmann pitched the first two innings for the Bombers and gave up five earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Damm pitched the final inning and two thirds and gave up six runs, one earned, on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Brookings 14, Watertown 12

It was another back-and-forth game but the Bombers were able to hang on for the victory in game two.

Brookings scored three runs in the top of the first. Brownell led off the inning with a triple and then was hit home on a single from Nelson. Nelson scored on an error by the catcher and Baugher scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. 

Watertown answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. The runs came from an error, a single and two wild pitches.

The Bombers regained the lead in the top of the second. Vincent began the inning with a double and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Teagan Wallace walked and then scored on a ground out from Liam Johnson to make it 5-4.

The White Sox answered again in the bottom of the inning with four more runs. Those runs were scored on a wild pitch, a two-run single and an RBI single to make it 8-5 heading into the third.

Brookings pulled ahead with six runs in the top of the third. Jonas Murray reached on an error to start the inning and then scored on a single from Baugher. Baugher scored on a Damm ground out and Addelman stole home to tie the game. Vincent then scored on a wild pitch and two runs scored on an error to make it 11-8.

Watertown scored runs on a bases loaded hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly to make it 11-10 heading into the fourth. 

Brookings scored three runs in the top of the fourth. Nelson walked to begin the inning and then scored on a double from Murray. Mosley then drew a one-out walk and both runners scored on an error to make it 14-10.

The White Sox loaded the bases with one out and scored a run on fielder’s choice. They then scored another run on a wild pitch, but the Bombers got the last out of the inning and picked up their first win of the season.

The Bombers had seven hits. Damm and Nelson were each 1-for-2 with an RBI. Murray was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Baugher was 2-for-2. Vincent was 1-for-1 and Brownell was 1-for-2.
