SIOUX FALLS — The Deubrook Area Dolphins won a pair of relay titles and Christopher Lee set a state meet record in the 100-meter dash as the SDHSAA State Class B Track & Field Meet kicked off at Howard Wood Field on Thursday afternoon.
The meet will conclude on Friday with five area athletes qualifying in individual events. Area qualifiers, who won their heat or had one of the three fastest times in the preliminary round, and top five finishers are listed in the agate below.
Lee was one of the highlights of the meet, setting a state record with a time of 10.80 seconds in the boys 100-meter dash prelims. Lee’s time broke the previous state record held by former Viborg-Hurley standout and current South Dakota State running back Angel Johnson, who had a time of 10.81 seconds in 2021.
Daniela Lee also qualified for the 100-meter dash on the girls side posting the fourth-fastest time at 12.31 seconds.
Elaina Rhode qualified for the 100-meter hurdles final with a time of 16.58 seconds and the Hawks’ 4x100-meter relay team of Lanie Mousel, Elaina Rhode, Crystal Silva-Dominguez and Daniela Lee qualified for the finals with the second-fastest time in the preliminary heats at 51.33 seconds.
The Dolphins earned a pair of state titles in the 4x800-meter relay. The boys’ team of Charlie Olsen, Landen Johnson, Jaxon Quail and Gavin Landmark won the event with a time of 8:17.67, while the girls’ team of Makenna Ekern, Kylee Johnson, Kadence Bowne and Nora Olsen finished with a time of 9:47.11.
Duebrook’s 1600 sprint medley relay team of Akasha Gorecki, Kadence Bowne, Kylee Johnson, Nora Olsen also finished in second place with a time of 4:18.24 in the finals.
J.P. Rogness advanced in the 100-meter dash prelims, posting the eighth-fastest time at 11.14 seconds.
Chloe Raw had the fastest time in the girls’ 100-meter dash at 12.01 seconds and qualified as part of the girls’ 4x100-meter relay team. Raw, Harley Johnson, Halley Miller and Madi Bacon posted the fourth-fastest time in the prelims at 51.52 seconds.
Hadlee Holt made the podium in the girls’ shot put with a toss of 37 feet and 5.75 inches.
