For the sixth time in the last seven years and the third year in a row, Tim Fryer of Hendricks, Minn., won the Harvey Mills Longest Day 10K on Saturday.

Fryer, 44, clocked the 6.2 miles in 38:42, four seconds off his winning pace in 2022. This year’s runner-up also was a familiar face. Trevor Hinderaker, 26, of Astoria, finished in 39:06. It was his third straight year as runner-up and fifth overall. James Niehus, 51, the other half of the Hendricks Running Club, finished third with a time of 42:30.

Watertown’s Owen McElroy, 40, edged his daughter, Kate, 14, for fourth. Both registered times of 42:39. Kate was the top female finisher with Alex Bisson, 35, of Brookings, placing second (45:33, 10th overall) and Jenn McElroy, 41, of Watertown, third (48:37, 15th overall).

Four people participated in the relay division with siblings Max and Anna Mills edging the son-mother combination of Hayden and Jessica Hardt, all of Brookings, 54:28 to 54:50.

There were 44 entries in the Prairie Striders Running Club event that was directed by Derrick Powers. That compares with 19 in 2022.

This was the first year for the event to be named in honor of Mills, a charter member of Prairie Striders and longtime participant and volunteer. He was honored by 32 family members who participated as a runner or a volunteer.
