Sioux Valley rolls against Beresford, remains unbeaten

BERESFORD — Sioux Valley kept things rolling on Friday night in Beresford as the second-ranked Cossacks beat the Watchdogs 42-7.

Donovan Rose had another stellar night as he ran for 171 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. He also had an interception on defense.

It was Mitchell Guthmiller who got the scoring going for the Cossacks (7-0) though as he ran into the end zone from 11 yards out with 7:32 left in the first quarter. Beresford would tie things up a little over two minutes later as Asthon Oberle connected with Cooper Nelson for a 12-yard touchdown.

Rose then scored his first touchdown of the night with 1:35 left in the first quarter. This one was from 34 yards out and the Cossacks led 14-7. Rose then ran to the end zone from 13 yards out just under two minutes into the second quarter to make it 21-7. Jakob Guthmiller put Sioux Valley on the board one more time before halftime as he scored on a 20-yard touchdown run to make it 28-7 at halftime.

The Cossacks would score two more times in the third quarter. Brock Christopherson scored from a yard out and Rose ran into the end zone from 15 yards out to make the final 42-7.

Sioux Valley had 411 rushing yards as a team. Christopherson had 98 yards on 12 carries and Mitchell Guthmiller had 60 yards on six carries. Mitchell Guthmiller caught Christopherson’s one completion and that went for 17 yards.

Jameson Degen had two interceptions for the Cossack defense. Johnnie Vermeulen had five tackles and a fumble recovery. Braden Danzeisen had six tackles and Wyatt Hardt had two sacks.

Sioux Valley will host No. 3 Elk Point-Jefferson in the regular season finale on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
